Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli weren't Texans, but you wouldn't know that from listening to the swinging cowboy jazz rendered up by the Texas Gypsies. A hot-licks take-off of Bob Wills' famous "Texas Playboys Theme," this playful bit of self-aggrandizement by this Dallas Western Swing string quartet, synthesized from former members of Cowboys & Indians and the legendary Light Crust Doughboys (from whom Wills originally appropriated his theme song), enjoys taking listeners (to paraphrase a bit) "from Paris, France to Paris, Texas". Mixing and melding hot jazz and Western Swing in the best Lone Star melting pot tradition, the Texas Gypsies break down walls and delightfully confound expectations in all the best ways.
