Songwriter Chip Taylor has a very pleasant walk to the mailbox twice a year when he goes to pick up his royalty checks for penning hits like "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning". Born in Yonkers, NY, Taylor has formed an improbable-but artistically fulfilling--alliance with Austin-born fiddler/singer/songwriter Carrie Rodriguez (her dad, songwriter David Rodriguez, used to play A-Town listening rooms like the Alamo Lounge and emmajoe's). The silver-haired hitmaker and the Berklee-trained chanteuse met at the 2001 South By Southwest music festival in Austin and have shared the stage and studio ever since. "Laredo," from their second collaboration, The Trouble With Humans, is a perfect soundtrack for chugging down I-35, blowing through the brush country between Dilley and Encinal, headed across the eternal Rio Grande for a Ramos gin fizz at the El Dorado.
