The title track from his latest album, “Broke Down,” earned Slaid Cleaves Song of the Year and Single of the Year awards at the 2000 Austin Music Awards. Born in Washington, D.C., Slaid moved to Austin in 1991 in his mid-20s to pursue his interest in rock music. “Broke Down” was released in early 2000 and helped launch his career into high gear after its unprecedented five-week stay at No. 1 on the Gavin Americana charts. Cleaves is currently touring the country and recording his next album, tentatively titled “Wishbones,” slated for release in January 2004.
