Known as the Chicano Bluesman, Randy Garibay incorporated a multitude of styles, including blues, jazz, rock, traditional Mexican music and R & B to forge his own brand of Texas flavor. Born in San Antonio, Garibay was known for a singing voice that could be gruff and defiant. While writing and recording his own music, Garibay was a tireless collaborator as well. Regardless of the genre, Garibay was never one to turn down a jam session, and played with some of the most respected artists to pass through Texas. Later he would go on to form his own group, Cats Don't Sleep, with which he recorded his signature song, "Barbacoa Blues." Garibay passed away after a battle with lung cancer on May 23, 2002.
