Los Desperadoz are three Villarreal brothers-Mike (accordion/vocals), Lee (bajo sexto/guitar), and P.J. (drums/vocals). The group's roots go back to their paternal grandfather, Librado Villarreal, a locally prominent musician in the 50's outfit, Los Hermanos Villarreal. The brothers followed in his footsteps and by the early '90s, the group began focusing on the neo-traditional style and their first hit single was "Borracho Perdido." The band's "Breaking the Barriers," (1998) album sparkled with the group's rendition of Jose Alfredo Jimenez's "Alma de Acero" and the reflective ballad, "Llorando en Silencio." In 1999, the band found additional success with the upstart Tejas Records label, run by producer Chris Lieck and John Whipple.
