Originally from New York, Brun began playing the congas at the age of 7, mimicking the sounds he heard from his Puerto Rican parents' records. By11, Brun was already playing for audiences when the family relocated back to Puerto Rico. Being in the land of many of the genre's icons, such as Tito Puente, helped the young Brun become more efficient in his music. In 1989, Brun made the decision to pursue music full time. He assembled a band of accomplished musicians in San Antonio and named the group Henry Brun y sus Latin Playerz.
