Cultivating a refreshing take on traditional Latin rhythms, Dallas' Havana NRG (New Rhythm Generation) has created a high-octane sound that invites plenty of dance-floor action. The group, fronted by bandleader and vocalist Mariela Suarez, pounds the tropical island rhythms of salsa, merengue, and cha cha cha. Born in Havana, Cuba, Suarez spent most of a decade producing music in Latin America before moving to Dallas to work as a music director and arranger. In 2002, Suarez teamed up with fellow Cuban immigrants Ivan Martinez (vocals), Maiquel Romero (trumpet), Ramon Rodriguez (bass), Ernesto Velez (trombone), Raul Valdez (conga), and American musicians Willie Martinez (bongo) and Jeff Fort (saxophone) to record their debut CD, "Camino al Cielo,"
