If sure-fire, right-as-rain traditional country has a name, you better believe it's George Strait. With a track record for dependable hits as rigid as his starched Western shirts, the Poteet-born, San Antonio-based Strait makes it all look easy. Since his 1981 debut, Strait has seen 27 of his albums go platinum or multi-platinum - including 1982's Strait from the Heart, which spawned "I Can't See Texas From Here". Strait, who's never veered from his traditional Western swing and honky-tonk roots in pursuit of a crossover pop audience, was the No. 1 touring country act of the '90, and he's still packing 'em in. In 2002, he drew a record-breaking 68,266 fans for his performance capping the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
