In addition to being a Grammy Award winner, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown has been inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and is an eight-time winner of the W.C. Handy Award, including a 2003 award for Best Instrumentalist (fiddle), awards for Instrumentalist of the Year in 1982 and 1986, and Entertainer of the Year in 1983. Raised in Texas, the 79-year-old Brown still plays the guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bass, harmonica and drums, and still goes by “Gatemouth,” a name given to him by his high school teacher for his constant chatter. From blues to big band swing to country and zydeco -- Brown has played it all and he’s played it all over the world, at times as an official musical ambassador of the U.S. State Department. From his most recent album, “Back to Bogalusa,” Brown departs from the bag band sound of his last few releases and gets back to his Southern Louisiana roots.
