Robert Johnson was born in Hazlehurst, Miss; Eric Clapton all the way over in Ripley, England. So what has either got to do with Texas music, apart from their influence upon multiple generations of Texas guitarslingers? Johnson, one of the most iconic figures in American music history, recorded a mere 29 songs in his 27 years of life - and 16 of those he recorded for the American Record Corporation in a room at the Gunter Hotel in downtown San Antonio in November, 1936. Among those recorded deep in the heart of Texas was "If I Had Possession Over Judgment Day," one of the 14 Johnson songs recorded by famed British blues champion Clapton for his 2004 tribute album, Me and Mr. Johnson.
