Texas can't claim full credit for Bobby "Blue" Bland, given he was born in Roseland, Tenn., and raised in Memphis. But it's a point of pride for Lone Star blues enthusiasts that the legendary singer's most famous work - including such blues classics as "Farther Up the Road" and his seminal album Two Steps From the Blues - hails from his 1954-1973 stint with Houston's Duke Records. Bland was certainly no stranger to the Texas blues circuit in the '50s and '60s, his charismatic stage presence making him a favorite of the ladies and aspiring young students like Texas' own Delbert McClinton. And as demonstrated on "My Sunday's Comin' Soon," from his 2003 album Blues at Midnight, Bland still imbues his blues with an incomparable sense of high class.
