Back when she went by the more modest moniker of Beyoncé Knowles, she was “just” the central diva of Houston’s wildly popular (world-wide sales of 33 million) R&B group Destiny’s Child. But then came her 2003 solo album Dangerously in Love — along with key roles in movies like Austin Powers in Goldmember and The Fighting Temptations — and voila, Beyoncé Knowles became simply Beyoncé, superstar. The album helped Beyoncé scoop up five Grammys. One of those wins was for Best Female R&B Performance for “Dangerously in Love 2,” the track featured here. Beyoncé also holds the distinction of being the first African-American woman to receive the ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award, back in 2001. And all this before the age of 23!
